Trial Placement cum Mentor Scheme for People with a Disability

Are you willing to offer employment opportunities to people with a disability who possess genuine working abilities and have strong will to be self-reliant?

People with a disability, like their able-bodied counterparts, possess genuine working potential and are eager to find a job. Equipped with proper training and guidance, they can perform well in jobs of various nature and become reliable employees of the company. People with a disability, however, can actualise their working potential and be self-reliant only if they are given equal employment opportunities by employers.

Now the Selective Placement Division of the Labour Department is launching the "Trial Placement cum Mentor Scheme for People with a Disability". It aims to encourage employers to offer job vacancies to people with a disability for trial placement so as to enhance employers' understanding of their working abilities. It is also designed to enhance peer group acceptance and facilitate integration of the disabled employees into the workplace.

The Scheme

  • Employers offer job vacancies to people with a disability for a one-month trial placement. At the end of the trial period, employers are free to decide whether to continue the employment or not.
  • Employers shall appoint an experienced staff as the Mentor of the disabled employee. The Mentor will coach the disabled employee relevant work skills as well as assist the employee to integrate with other staff.

Incentive

  • Participating employers will receive a Certificate of Appreciation and financial incentive which equals to 50% of the actual wages paid to the employee during the one-month trial placement period, with a ceiling of HK$3,000.
  • A Cash reward of HK$500 and a Certificate of Appreciation will be awarded to Mentors who assist the disabled employee to complete the trial placement and the employee is successfully engaged by the employer after the trial placement.
