Safety hints about fatal work accident that happened in Sham Shui Po on 27 May 2026

In response to the fatal accident that happened on the morning of 27 May 2026 – in which a male worker, while working on the ground, was struck by a hoist block and a trolley that fell from an I-beam and was later certified dead in hospital – the LD calls on duty holders to take suitable safety measures to prevent workers from being struck by falling hoist blocks or trolleys, including ensuring that:

• hoist blocks and trolleys are in good structural condition and safely secured to I-beams;
• lifting appliances have been regularly inspected, tested and thoroughly examined; and
• the safe working loads of the lifting appliances shall not be exceeded when they are in use.
