Safety hints about fatal work accident that happened in Kai Tak on 12 January 2026

In response to the fatal accident that happened on 12 January 2026, in which a male worker was trapped between a suddenly displaced water tank and a bored pile casing nearby while he was detaching the lifting gear connected to the top of the water tank, the LD calls on duty holders to take suitable safety measures to prevent workers from being struck or trapped by loads when engaged in unrigging process, including:

• ensuring that the place supporting the loads is secure; and
• formulating proper unrigging methods for detaching lifting gear so as to prevent displacement of the objects in the course of unrigging operations.
