Safety hints about fatal work accident that happened in Tai Po on 30 September 2025

In response to the fatal work accident that happened on 30 September 2025 in which a female worker was trapped between a mobile crane and a metal railing nearby, the LD appeals to duty holders to take suitable safety measures to prevent workers from being struck or trapped by a moving or slewing mobile appliance, including:

• ensure that an unobstructed passageway, not less than 600 millimetres wide, is maintained between the appliance and any nearby railing or fixture;
• ensure that a safe distance is maintained between the appliance and workers nearby; and
• if the above measures are impracticable, all reasonable steps shall be taken to prevent any worker from entering the operation zone of the appliance.
