Safety hints about toe-boards on working platforms of scaffolds

The purpose of installing toe-boards on working platforms of scaffolds is to prevent objects or workers from falling from heights. To ensure that toe-boards comply with the relevant regulatory requirements, the Labour Department appeals to stakeholders to pay attention to the following:

• Toe-boards shall be made of suitable materials, ensuring that they are of sound construction and adequate strength;
• Toe-boards generally made of plastic strips fail to meet the aforementioned purpose and requirement, and thus do not comply with the relevant requirements;
• Toe-boards shall have a minimum height of 200mm and shall be properly secured inside the standards of working platforms; and
• Toe-boards shall be properly repaired and maintained. If any damage is found, they shall be repaired or replaced immediately.
