Legislative Council Approved the Revision of Medical Expenses under the Employees' Compensation Ordinance (Cap 282) and Pneumoconiosis (Compensation) Ordinance (Cap 360)

On 3 April 2003, the Legislative Council passed resolutions under the Employees' Compensation Ordinance (ECO) and Pneumoconiosis (Compensation) Ordinance (PCO) respectively to revise the levels of medical expenses under the two ordinances.

Under the two ordinances, a claimant who has received medical treatment in respect of a work injury or in connection with pneumoconiosis is entitled to claim reimbursement of the actual amount of medical expenses incurred from the employer concerned or the Pneumoconiosis Compensation Fund Board (PCFB), as the case may be. The reimbursable amount is subject to a daily maximum level.

The revised daily maximum levels of medical expenses under the ECO and PCO, which have been in operation since 4 April 2003, are as follows:

(a) Out-patient treatment $200
(b) Hospitalisation $200
(c) Out-patient treatment and hospitalisation on the same day $280
