Exposition on Youth Work Experience and Training Scheme

The Labour Department will hold an exposition tomorrow (July 24) to display information on the Youth Work Experience and Training Scheme (YWETS). Members of the public are welcome to visit. The YWETS will be officially launched tomorrow.

About 1000 training vacancies will be displayed at the exposition for youngsters joining the scheme to apply on-the-spot. These vacancies include clerks, sales and customer service assistants, tourism service assistants, and information technology assistants.

Representatives from training bodies providing induction training and case management services for the scheme will be present to answer enquiries.

The department will organise eight briefing sessions to introduce the YWETS and three careers seminars to provide information on employment opportunities in industries such as tourism and aviation, insurance and property management.

The exposition will be held on 6/F, the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre(HKCEC), from 11 am to 6 pm. Admission is free.

Admission tickets are required for the briefing sessions and careers seminars. Free tickets will be distributed on a first-come-first-served basis at 11 am on 7/F, HKCEC. Enquiries can be made at 2382 1310.

Targeted at youngsters aged between 15 and 24 without a degree, the YWETS aims to enhance their employability by providing on-the-job training to improve their vocational skills and personal credentials.

The YWETS will accept applications from tomorrow to August 13. Application forms can be obtained from Careers Information Centres and Job Centres of the Labour Department, Public Enquiry Service Centres of the Home Affairs Department and designated training bodies. They can also be downloaded from the YWETS website (http://www.ywets.labour.gov.hk).
