Delegation of National Model Workers and Craftsmen’s Visit to Hong Kong

At the invitation of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, the Vice Chairman of the All-China Federation of Trade Unions, Mr Wei Dichun, led the Delegation of National Model Workers and Craftsmen to visit Hong Kong during 20 to 23 October 2025 to enhance public understanding of the outstanding qualities and remarkable contributions of the National Model Workers, National Advanced Workers and National Great Craftsmen, thereby boosting the morale of the labour force and injecting positive energy into the society.

“National Model Worker” is a national-level honorary title, commending outstanding enterprise employees, farmers, and other people involved in building socialism. At the same level is the “National Advanced Worker”, awarded to exemplary employees of government agencies and public institutions. “National Great Craftsman” is also a national-level honour, recognising top professional and technical talents in fields such as manufacturing and industrial technology research and development, who possess exceptional skills, exquisite craftsmanship, significant contributions, outstanding innovation capabilities, and leadership roles.

The seven representatives of National Model Workers, National Advanced Workers and National Great Craftsmen visiting Hong Kong are from various fields, including Mr Gao Fenglin (aerospace), Mr Hong Jiaguang (aviation), Mr Duan Jiangnan (artificial intelligence), Ms Zhan Chunpei (maritime), Ms Zhu Yiqing (finance), Mr Liu Zhong (catering) and Mr Yang Jun (cultural arts). The representatives shared inspiring stories of their perseverance and success, as well as relentless pursuit of excellence at work, demonstrating extraordinary determination and dedication in seemingly ordinary positions. They have demonstrated the notable value of labour, giving valuable insights for the general public in Hong Kong. Day 1 of Delegation of National Model Workers and Craftsmen’s Visit to Hong Kong

Meeting with Representatives from the Government, Labour Sector and Business Sector

To mark the special occasion, the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region organised welcoming activities on the first day of the visit of the Delegation (October 20). The events included the Secretary for Labour and Welfare, Mr Chris Sun, greeting the Delegation upon their arrival at Hong Kong International Airport; the Deputy Chief Secretary for Administration, Mr Cheuk Wing-hing, presiding over a welcome ceremony at a hotel banquet hall; and the Chief Secretary for Administration, Mr Chan Kwok-ki, hosting a welcome dinner at his official residence. During the welcome ceremony, seven representatives of National Model Workers, National Advanced Workers and National Great Craftsmen introduced themselves, leaving a lasting impression on more than 200 attendees from Hong Kong’s labour and business sectors, who were all eager to take photos with the Delegation members to capture the memorable moments.

At the welcome ceremony, students lined up to welcome the Delegation as they entered the ballroom. The Hong Kong Police Band played the national anthem, with all attendees stood solemnly and sang the national anthem.

The Deputy Chief Secretary for Administration, Mr Cheuk Wing-hing (the first photo), and the leader of the Delegation and Vice Chairman of the All-China Federation of Trade Unions, Mr Wei Dichun (the second photo), respectively delivered a speech at the welcome ceremony.

A video introducing the seven representatives of National Model Workers, National Advanced Workers, and National Great Craftsmen was screened at the welcome ceremony, followed by the sharing of their stories of perseverance and success in person.

The Delegation attended a welcome dinner hosted by the Chief Secretary for Administration, Mr Chan Kwok-ki, at his official residence in the evening. Day 2 of Delegation of National Model Workers and Craftsmen’s Visit to Hong Kong

Exchanges with Major Labour Organisations, the Labour Department’s Employment Services Users and Trainees from the Employees Retraining Board

The Delegation exchanged views with major local labour organisations, trade union representatives, the Labour Department's (LD) employment services users and trainees from the Employees Retraining Board (ERB). The experience shared by the Delegation has motivated participants to embrace changes and pursue innovation proactively, as well as to uphold a spirit of dedication and enjoyment in their work and careers, thereby enhancing their capabilities.

Exchanges with Vocational Training Council Students and Hong Kong Representatives of WorldSkills Competition Competitors

The Delegation visited the Chinese Culinary Institute, the Hotel and Tourism Institute and the International Culinary Institute, which are member institutions of the Vocational Training Council (VTC), and engaged in exchanges with VTC students and Hong Kong representatives of WorldSkills Competition competitors. The participants were deeply inspired and motivated to continuously sharpen their skills, strive for excellence, and build a foundation for their future career development.

Visit to the Legislative Council

The Delegation visited the Legislative Council (LegCo) Complex, and met with the President of the LegCo, Mr Andrew Leung, and the Secretary General of the LegCo Secretariat, Ms Dora Wai.

Day 3 of Delegation of National Model Workers and Craftsmen’s Visit to Hong Kong

Dialogue with Secondary School Students

The Delegation visited the Chinese Foundation Secondary School and engaged in dialogue with students, encouraging them to identify their goals and pursue their dreams.

Visit to Cyberport

The Delegation visited Cyberport and a related enterprise on campus to learn about the latest developments and achievements of the artificial intelligence industry in Hong Kong.

Visit to Kai Tak Sports Park

The Delegation visited the Kai Tak Sports Park to understand the important role of the Sports Park in promoting the development of sports and the mega-event economy of Hong Kong.

Exchange with Members of the Public

The Delegation visited the Moreton Terrace Activities Centre in the evening to meet with members of the public and engage in interactive exchanges.

The Delegation, accompanied by the Under Secretary for Home and Youth Affairs, Mr Clarence Leung (eighth right in the first photo), met and engaged in exchanges with members of the public.


Day 4 of Delegation of National Model Workers and Craftsmen’s Visit to Hong Kong

Farewell the Delegation

The Delegation concluded its visit in Hong Kong. The Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region organised a farewell ceremony at the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge Hong Kong Port before their departure.

At the farewell ceremony, the Under Secretary for Labour and Welfare, Mr Ho Kai-ming, expressed his sincere gratitude to the Delegation for visiting Hong Kong, which enabled Hong Kong citizens to experience the remarkable contributions and noble spirit demonstrated by the National Model Workers, National Advanced Workers and National Great Craftsmen in their respective fields, and to gain a deeper understanding of the profound essence of the spirit of craftsmanship.

Achievements of the Delegation of National Model Workers and Craftsmen’s Visit to Hong Kong

During their visit in Hong Kong, the Delegation participated in various exchanges and visits, engaging in deep dialogues with young trainees, local outstanding workers, representatives of the WorldSkills Competition competitors, secondary school students, and members of the community. By sharing their professional expertise, extensive experiences, and passion for their work, they demonstrated in person the spirit of “striving for excellence” in craftsmanship. This visit has deepened the understanding of Hong Kong citizens about the outstanding qualities and exceptional contributions of National Model Workers, National Advanced Workers and National Great Craftsmen. It has inspired young people to bravely pursue their dreams, motivated groups of workers to strive for excellence in their work, thereby promoting the socio-economic development of Hong Kong.
