Labour Department concerned about fatal work accident that happened on March 20

Concerning the fatal work accident that happened in Sha Tin on March 20, the Labour Department (LD) has promptly deployed officers to the site and preliminarily understood that the deceased was a self-employed worker. The LD will continue to follow up on the accident, including gathering the accident details, and reminding the construction industry to adopt suitable safety precautions to prevent recurrence of similar accidents.

The LD has stepped up enforcement efforts and is now launching a special enforcement operation, targeting at work-at-height safety in the construction industry. During the enforcement operation, special attention will be paid to high risk processes to deter unsafe work activities. The LD will take vigorous enforcement actions if violation of occupational safety and health legislation is detected, including issuing suspension notices to suspend the associated work processes and initiating prosecutions if necessary.

The LD again appeals to employers and employees to always stay alert to work safety and strictly adopt safety measures so as to avoid endangering their own safety and that of others.
