To showcase the progress
of trainees and commend the caring efforts of training bodies and employers, YPTP
and YWETS jointly organised the Award Ceremony for "The Most Improved Trainees"
on 24 July, 2008. The ten awardees were praised for their improvements in personal
development, leadership or job performance. The striving stories of trainees provide
the best encouragement to their peers and encourage young people to pursue their
career goals in spite of difficulties. Below are highlights of the ten awardees:
| Billy
Ho Chun-wai
is the Clubhouse Service Assistant of the Park Island. He is employed by the Kai
Shing Management Services Ltd. His training body is HKFTU Occupational Retraining
Centre. Thanks to the company's on-the-job training, Billy has been able to tackle
the many challenges of his job. His pleasant personality and extrovert character
have enabled him to establish good working relationship with his colleagues. His
superb piano skills demonstrated in his amateur performance in the club house
have earned him the appreciation of many residents. |  |

| Li
Ho-fai is a residential gas technician employed
by the Hong Kong and China Gas Company Ltd. His training body is the Vocational
Training Council. Ho-fai has shown a great interest in his job and readily shares
his knowledge and experience with his colleagues. His supervisors and peers alike
praise his positive work attitude and exemplary performance in spite of his limited
work experience. |  |

| Fong
Kin-lun is an assistant stage props maker employed
by the Cubedecor Workshop Ltd. His training body is the Chinese YMCA of Hong Kong.
Throughout the period of employment, Kin-lun's strong interest in electrical engineering
has enabled him to develop new equipment with his colleagues constructively. His
employer appreciates his good performance and conscientious work attitude and
praises his ability to work independently and tackle problems with ample common
sense. |  |

| Silky
Tang works as an aircraft maintenance craftsman
trainee at the Hong Kong Aircraft Engineering Company Ltd. Her training body is
HKFTU Occupational Retraining Centre. Silky has all along shown great interest
in engineering work. After completing the one-month intensive pre-employment training
of the Aircraft Maintenance Craftsman Trainee Project, Silky has been appointed
to her present post. She is now working hard towards the next step of her career
ladder - to become a full-fledged engineer! |  |

| Poon
Tsz-yung, Irene is a Leader of the Airport Ambassadors
of the Hong Kong Airport Authority. Her training body is the Hong Kong Federation
of Youth Groups. After completing her on-the-job training as an Airport Ambassador,
Irene has been promoted to her present position. Her job entails leading a group
of newly-appointed Airport Ambassadors to provide quality and caring customer
service for airport visitors. She is never late in offering her helping hands
to the new recruits. |  |

| Chan
Tsz-lung is a kitchen assistant employed by
the Prudential Hotel. His training body is the Methodist Centre. With an immense
interest in cooking, Tsz-lung joined the Module D-Catering Industry Training of
YPTP to brush up his cooking skills. The subsequent workplace attachment training
landed Tsz-lung in his present job which he considers as an excellent starting
point for his careers. His personal goal is to improve his cooking skills and
pave the way for his becoming an executive chef. |  |

| Wong
Mei-yan is an assistant hair stylist employed
by the Hoi Lam Hair Design. Her training body is the Salvation Army. Before joining
YPTP, Yan was often drifting on the streets with other groups of young people.
YPTP has enhanced Yan's motivation and ignited her desire for achievement and
actualisation. She is now burning the midnight oil to acquire more hair-styling
skills. |  |

| Lam
Hoi-kwan works as a licensed estate agent for
the Many Wells Property Agent Ltd. His training body is the HKFTU Occupational
Retraining Centre. Hoi-kwan landed on his present job after joining the YPTP &
YWETS Estate Agent Training Project. He has done exceptionally well and won the
honour of being the first trainee passing both the Qualifying Examination for
Salespersons and the Qualifying Examination for Estate Agents. |  |

| Kong
Ngo-kan is a purchasing clerk of the National
Element Investment Ltd. His training body is the Hong Kong YWCA. After he left
school, Kan made many futile job attempts. Repeated failures made him feel lost
and defeated. His family encouraged him to join YPTP and he found the training
helped enhance his motivation and self-confidence. On completion of his workplace
attachment training, Kan secured a job offer from his employer and has stayed
in the same job since then. Through employment, Kan has re-integrated into the
community and realised his ability at work. |  |

| Yau
Hoi-yue, Trudy works as a Clinic Assistant at
the Kinetics Medical & Health Group Company Ltd. Her training body is the
YMCA of Hong Kong. Trudy was relatively ignorant and unskilled when she started
her on-the-job training, but now she can competently master cardiac examinations,
explaining every step of the procedure to her clients with confidence. Her employer
praises her hard work and positive work attitude. |  |
